Having grown up on Maui, I wanted our palm trimming company to be based on an appreciation for our health and well being of the community and our aina. The common method of trimming palms by climbing with spiked boots leaves irreversible marks and is potentially fatal. We use a spikeless method. These marks are not only unsightly they make the palm very susceptible to disease. At Coconut Kuleana, rather than spiked boots, we use platforms that do not damage the tree and are much safer. Rather than machetes, we use tree saws, which allow us to make more precise and aesthetically-pleasing cuts. We feel this method of trimming is a great service to both the client and the palm.
